此段话作者名字及写作时间已经不详，但最有根据的是在1932年，在美国马里兰州巴尔的摩市，一位名为Mary Elizabeth Frye (1905-2004) 的主妇，为了同居友人Margaret Schwarzkopf的母亲过世而写的作品。
