Wicca
从文化脉络来说，新异教中最具代表性的潮流又属 Wicca。Wicca 被美国政府承认为合法宗教多年，现在是美国的第八大宗教。何谓 Wicca？Wicca 就是现代巫术（modern Witchcraft）。所谓巫术（witchcraft），最初是指早期基督教时期的异教徒宗教信仰和宗教行为，後来被基督教徒称取名为巫术；新异教则以 Wicca 取代了意含撒旦论（Satanism）的巫术一词。但许多从事现代巫术的人，则宁愿称其为 Craft，而不喜欢 witchcraft 或是 Wicca。
古英文中有 wicca 一字，源於萨克逊语witega，意魔法师（sorcerer），今日所说的 wicca 则来自 Gerald Gardner 的传统。在某个程度上来说， Gerald Gardner（1884- 1964）创立 Wicca，Wicca始於二十世纪三○年代的英国人Gerald Gardner（1884-1964）的著作和教导，1954年英国废掉反巫术法令之後，Gardner出版了他第一本的非小说类巫术书藉，融合了犹太教神秘学（Kabbala）、塞尔特人神话、东方哲学和埃及观念学等等。一般认为，Gardner并非是复兴传统巫术，而是创造了新的宗教。
